  • Top Tips for Communion 2018

Top Tips for First Time Communion Moms

At Mods & Minis we know that choosing the perfect Communion dress can be both exciting and a little daunting! Don’t worry, you are in the steady hands of experts and we’ve got some great top tips to guide you along the way:

Start your search as soon as possible- We realise April/ May, may seem like a lifetime away but in the communion dress world, the search begins in October. Surprising we know, but the dresses arrive in store from the beginning of October so start early to avoid disappointment!

But what if she grows?” Uttered by every Mother in despair, at the thought of their little girl ending up with a mini dress after a growth spurt following your dress fitting. A great rule of thumb is to give half an inch for every six months. In general, this works great and all our team recommend this to everyone buying for the special day. But be confident you know your kids best, maybe they are due a growth spurt, in which case you might want to increase the amount of room, or maybe they shot up like wild flower this summer and you are confident they will not be getting much taller again for a while. Either way our team are here to help and will be ready in store to advise you as best we can.

Extra socks or tights is a must. Always buy two, because believe me, if you have only purchased one pair this will be the pair the tumble dryer decided to gobble up, or those tights will be the tights that snag the morning of the big day. (Not to mention splatters from those muddy puddles left over from the April showers) Its always best to have a backup pair, ready to go.

Try on everything- I cannot tell you the amount of times we have had families who were convinced just looking at the hanger that they had found the perfect dress, however the dresses look so different on. Something you may not think much of on the rack may be the perfect dress on your little communion girl! The top tip is to try on everything, even dresses you think you don’t like, I guarantee you will be surprised, and if nothing else you get to try on as many ‘princess dresses’ as you can.

Be comfortable- When she’s trying on her dress, be sure she sits down. Your little one will be standing, kneeling and sitting in the church, not to mention all the fun during the celebrations after, so make sure she is comfortable. With countless photos inevitable for the day, we want to make sure your little girl is as comfortable and confident as possible.

We are delighted to share the launch of our 2018 Communion Collection on Sunday the 22nd of October in store, appointments available. Check out full details on our Facebook page, plus enjoy a sneak-peak of our 2018 Communion Collection.

Sneak Peak - join us for our customer loyalty evenings in Ballincollig & Killarney on Thursday the 26th of October and in Tralee, Ennis and Tralee on Friday 27th of October. At our loyalty evenings enjoy a sneak peak of the new Winter collection and at each event we will be hosting a mini “salon style” fashion show and offering top tips & insights for styling. Plus stayed tuned to Facebook for the announcement of our celebrity MC’s at each loyalty evening!

  • The temperature is falling, so wrap up with our amazing Autumn Jacket promotion!

At Mods & Minis, we are big on the little things, as our Mum’s know that they matter most when it comes to kids. With the kids settled back to school and the weather changing it’s a great time to avail of our Autumn jacket promotion!

Mods & Minis are the leading specialists in children’s fashion, a family owned business they have five stores, Killarney, Tralee, Mallow, Ballincolling and Ennis and their expert staff are on-hand to assist you every step of the way. They also have a fantastic e-store on www.modsandminis.ie so you can pop in for a browse whenever suits!

They fully understand the Autumn jacket you choose for your child needs to work on many fronts, from value, to durability, to being easy to wash and maintain.

Here are some top tips when choosing the Autumn jacket for your child:

•Go at least one size up, as uniforms tend to be bulky so this way you are ensuring your child is comfortable throughout the colder months.

•Choose a machine washable option, keep it as easy as possible to maintain.

•Select a style and colour that compliments their school uniform, as after their uniform, this will be the staple item in their wardrobe, so choose a style that works overall.

•When you select your Autumn jacket ensure to put their name on the jacket. For older kids an iron-on name badge is a simple solution and for younger children who may still be learning to read an easily recognisable sticker or badge inside the jacket will help them recognise it as theirs.

Mods & Minis Autumn Jacket promotion offers fantastic value and choice with 25% off until the 7th November 2017. Full promotional range is available in all their stores and a selected range is available online with promo code autumn25

  • Tips for Visiting Santa This Christmas

Tips for Visiting Santa this Christmas

Making the all important visit to Santa this year

As many of you will make the highly anticipated visit to the man himself… Mr Claus, over the weekend we have some great tips to make sure your visit goes as smooth as possible, and that you have some wonderful memories in those Santa photographs that you will look back on for years to come.

So often we are oh too excited about our child visiting Santa that we forget it can be quite a daunting experience for you little one. We recommend the following tips to ensure the visit goes as smooth as possible

Have A Drive by - Walk past Santa’s grotto a few days before and talk with your child. Explain to them that you are going to pay him a visit in a few days and get a lovely picture. Let them know what to expect.

Distraction at the Ready-  Getting the picture just right can be tricky too. So many parents leave with a picture of their child crying, or their little one refuses to pose for the picture at all. Explain what’s going on, but failing that providing a distraction is always beneficial. Lots of photographers recommend putting some tape on your child’s hand. This can help distract you little one if they get fidgety and also helps keep them calm.

Positive Vibes - Avoid preparing your child by saying “Don't be afraid, Santa's not going to hurt you,” you've introduced a possibility that may never have occurred to them. Instead, talk about how fun it will be, and show your child a picture of a sibling or a cousin perched happily on Santa's lap

What to Wear? - You really have so many choices when choosing your child’s outfit for visiting Santa, you can go Fun & Causal with colourful Christmas Jumpers or more classical Christmas with a more formal party wear look for your little one.

Stole my Look - Bear in mind Santa is going to be in red so often its best to try to avoid red so your child will stand out in the picture. Often kids get lost in a sea of red velour and white fur collars.

Comfort is Key - Make sure your child is comfortable. This is a happy, fun occasion and you want your little one to enjoy every second. A cool pair of chinos with a jumper can be just the thing. Your child will look smart and still be able to move around, play and enjoy the experience.

If you want a little extra help with your outfit choices for the day we have Christmas Sections set up for each department online with great suggestions for every age group. Or pop in store where our Team will be more than happy to assist you.

Most importantly of all Enjoy the Experience, you will look back on these pictures for years to come and remember that special day.
